This funky settlement of primarily log structures, is located to the northwest of Boulder, perched on a mountainside above Left Hand Canyon at an elevation of 8,300 feet. Originally a mining camp, it was the site of the first major discovery of gold during the 1859 Colorado Gold Rush and remained an important mining camp throughout the late 19th century. Gold Hill is accessible from nearby Left Hand Canyon Road via Lick Skillet Road, the steepest county road in the United States. Easier approaches to Gold Hill include Sunshine Canyon Road from 4th and Mapleton in Boulder. |

Brainard Lake National Recreation Area is 20 miles from Nederland and one hour from Boulder. It offers wonderful views of the Indian Peaks Range. Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy camping, fishing, hiking, and cross-country skiing in season. Head up Boulder Canyon from Boulder to Nederland, then turn north and drive on Colo. 72 just over 11.5 miles and look for the Brainard Lake sign. Turn left and you're on your way. |

This city park in Boulder has wonderful Flatirons views and features numerous hiking trails. It's also home to the only Chautaqua west of the Mississippi--the buildings date to 1898, and have been in continuous use since then. Take Baseline Rd west past Broadway, continue to park entrance on your left/south. |

Flagstaff Mountain 1 |

Sweeping views of the plains can be found all along the route. This meandering mountain road, just outside Boulder, rises to an elevation of 7000 feet. It is regularly frequented by drivers, bicyclists and ambitious inline skaters and offers stunning daytime and nighttime views of Boulder, Denver and the mountains. Attractions include picnic areas, mountain bike trails, a small amphitheatre, and the Summit Nature Center, which is open weekends from May to August. The Flagstaff House, one of Boulder's more romantic dining destinations, is also situated along this scenic road. Follow Baseline Road west; it winds and hairpins more than 1,600 feet to the summit. |

Eldorado Canyon State Park is located about five miles southwest of Boulder, with 1500 ft. canyon walls and over 500 different climbing routes, this small park attracts rock climbers from all over the world. It also offers hiking trails for all abilities, rainbow and brook trout fishing, biking, sightseeing, spectacular views and wildlife. Take Broadway / State Highway 93 south from Boulder, turn west (right) onto Colorado 170 and then continue about three miles to the town of Eldorado Springs. Highway 170 dead-ends at the town and a dirt road continues. The park is located at the end of the dirt road on the left. The book store / visitor's center is one mile west from the park's entrance. |
