The term Independent Film describes not only a film produced outside of the major Hollywood studio system, but is also used to describe films in which the writer or director's original authorial intent and personal creative vision is maintained in the final film. The term, Independent Film, is also used to describe less commercially-driven art films which differ markedly from the norms of plot-driven, mainstream Hollywood cinema.
Colorado has always been a major supporter of independent production, as our wealth of Indie friendly Film Festivals and countless independently produced films and television shows can attest to. Independent filmmaking has a long history in Colorado and will continue to be a major part of film and video production in the state.
