Digital Media Symposium Unites

Colorado’s Technology and Entertainment Industries

Colorado’s fourth annual Digital Media Symposium (DiMe), is a collaboration between the Boulder International Film Festival, Colorado’s Creative Industries Division. and the Boulder Convention & Visitor’s Bureau.  It takes place on February 15, 2013 at the St. Julien Hotel and Spa in downtown Boulder

The DiMe is a dynamic forum aimed to stimulate, inspire and solidify the creative industries in Colorado, and features panels of visionary leaders in the film, media, and gaming industries who discuss the potential for collaboration, the evolution and application of new technology, as well as how to engage and collaborate in this profitable arena. DiMe’s mission is to stimulate, inform, entertain and connect all interested and affected by our changing environment to vibrancy and opportunity within the digital landscape and Colorado’s media industry.

“The DiMe is a value-added for BIFF because of its connection to films and entertainment,” said Kathy Beeck, director of the Boulder International Film Festival. “And Boulder recently ranked number three in the nation in a survey for concentration of high-tech employment, with 22 percent of all jobs in Boulder in the tech sector.  Coupled with this city’s love of entertainment, it’s a perfect fit.”

In the past, the DiMe has tackled such topics as monetization, 3D, gaming, geospatial innovations, the tech job market, and more. Last year, DiMe panelists included:

Don Hahn – Oscar-winning producer/director (“Beauty and the Beast,” “The Lion King”)

Alvy Ray Smith -- co-founder of Pixar

Carla Johnson – founder and CEO of EarthvisionZ

Rob Schuham – co-founder of FearLess Revolution

Paul Berberian – CEO of Orbotix

Ben Long – computer journalist

Denise MacDonnell – director and GM, Digital out-of-home

Andres Espineira – Pixorial founder and CEO

J. Erik Dyce – Sonic Disintermediation

Micah Baldwin -- Graphicly

“The DiMe is a fantastic showcase of Colorado’s Creative Industries in the digital media arena. Colorado has unbelievable talent and opportunities in film, television, game design, and digital media,” said Marcia Morgan with the Colorado Creative Industries Office. “The DiMe will be the connecting point of the year, for digital media professionals as well as anyone interested in learning more from industry visionaries about the future of 3D and digital distribution, especially as it relates to Colorado.”
